Camino de Santiago

Pro                                                                                              Con

– I would experience France & Spain                                     – It will cost thousands of dollars

– Thirty-three days of reflection                                             – My feet will get blisters & hurt

– Meet people from all over the world                                  – Away from my wife for a month

– Exotic food & wine                                                                 – Away from temple for a month

– What an accomplishment                                                    – Bathrooms in the woods

– Hiking in nature                                                                    – Community showers & sleeping

– It will be healthy                                                                   – Washing clothes every day

– Come back energized & inspired                                       – Dogs, dogs & more dogs

– I could use it to raise money for temple                          – I would miss High Holidays

– It will be a personal spiritual journey                              – It may kill me

The Camino is a metaphor for life. Do not be daunted by the journey; take it one day at a time. You will be stronger at the end than when you started.

    On the Cons:
You do not have to get blisters.
Use leave no trace principles for the bathroom in the woods. There are plenty of bars and restaurants with toilets, too.
Shower stalls are private even in shared facilities. The sleeping is less so! There are private rooms.
Dogs are not a problem. No business owner will let his dog get between him and your wallet!
Light a candle and say a prayer at St. James tomb (he was a Jew, too).
